Levels made with Ferr 2D Tool

Khaya served as a 2D student project at VFS, and was made with four other people. I, along with one other, created the levels, taking heavy inspiration from Ori and the Blind Forest. Our process saw joint collaboration from paper concept to ensure fluidity before each taking ownership of our divided levels in engine with frequent feedback and suggestions between ourselves, other members of the team, and volunteer testers.

The levels were designed in a way which made the game feel quick and tight, giving the player a tough challenge as the levels went on. With the gradual introduction of later mechanics, the platforming segments were made tougher and tougher.

Level 3 was created as an introduction to the new double-jump mechanic. Using the same formula for the previous levels to teach the player, double jump was taught in a non-lethal environment, before getting to tougher and tougher encounters as the player progressed.

For the Level 4 finale, the new dash mechanic was taught. This level went through the most iteration out of the 2 I did in engine, as the values of the dash were being tweaked while the level was being built.
